IN THE VALLEY OF THE RIVER KARAS FLOODS ENDANGER TOWNS, ABOUT 3000 ha OF AGRICULTURAL MANOR, TRAFFIC AND INDUSTRIAL FACILITIES.

According to morphological, infrastructural, pedological, and other properties of the river valley, as well as the site of the Yugoslavian - Romanian border distinguish two sectors of the river course.

SECTOR THE "LOWER" KARAŠ:

	Several towns (Dupljaja, Jasenovo, Banatska Subotica and Dobričevo);
	Great number of traffic facilities;
	Mill in Straža;
	Space provided for the extension of the source of municipal water supply Bela Crkva;
	Great agricultural areas, which after river engineering and provided flood protection, need construction of drainage system.

SECTOR "THE UPPER KARAŠ":

	One town (Kuštilj);
	Agricultural soil with a beneficial water-air regime (construction of the drainage system is not planned).

TRAINING WORKS - "ZERO" VARIANT:

CONSTRUCTION OF LOCAL FACILITIES PROVIDES FLOOD PROTECTION OF THE SETTLEMENTS, MILL IN STRAŽA AND TRAFFIC CORRIDORS ONLY.

TRAINING WORKS - VARIANT "A":

PASSIVE FLOOD PROTECTION OF THE SETTLEMENTS AND AGRICULTURAL MANOR OF 2016 ha ALONG THE WHOLE COURSE OF THE KARAŠ.

	Construction of levees for the protection of the cassettes against the ruling big water with a return period of 5% (only for the cassettes which are techno-economically proved to need investments);
	Foreland engineering.
	Works in the river channel (bank protection, cutting across acute bends in their courses, protection of the levees and other works against collapse).

TRAINING WORKS - VARIANT "B":

On the "lower" Karaš: ACTIVE FLOOD PROTECTION OF THE SETTLEMENTS AND AGRICULTURAL MANOR OF 2131 ha.

	Construction of derivation canal along the right side of the valley from Vojvodinci to the canal DTD (long 6.78 km). New riverbed joins the flow at the Karaš discharge bigger then 22 m3/s;
	Maintenance of the existing condition of the Karaš riverbed downstream from Vojvodinci with the following functions: ==> collecting drained waters from a future drainage system ==> gathering and evacuation of the big waters from the small tributaries and torrents. ==> conveyance of the waters needful for the actuation of the mill/small hydro plant near Straža;
	Removal of the riverbed of the Vičinik to the route along the border.

On the "upper" Karaš: PASSIVE FLOOD PROTECTION OF THE SETTLEMENTS AND AGRICULTURAL MANOR OF 748 ha.

Construction of levees for the protection of the cassettes against the ruling big water with a return period of 5% (same as for the variant "A").

TRAINING WORKS - VARIANT "C":

On the "lower" Karaš: ACTIVE FLOOD PROTECTION OF THE SETTLEMENTS AND AGRICULTURAL MANOR OF 1750 ha

a) From the junction with the canal DTD to Dobričevo

	Existing riverbed of the Karaš remains the same and receives discharges up to 70 m3/s;
	Derivation canal by the right side of the valley (long 7370 m) conveys big waters to the recipient. Flow in the canal commence when the inflow in retention is bigger then 140 m3/s.

b) Between Dobričevo and Vojvodinci, the river valley remains in the same condition. During the period of big waters, it has function of the retention where waters of the Karas and the Vičinik flow. They are discharged at certain ratios into existing riverbed of the Karas downstream from Dobričevo and into decompression canal.

On the "upper" Karaš: PASSIVE FLOOD PROTECTION OF THE SETTLEMENTS AND AGRICULTURAL MANOR OF 845 ha.

Training of the riverbed with levees on the both sides for gathering big waters with a return period of 5%.
